London on my mind

Encouragement amidst terror attacks

In the wake of recent terror attacks throughout the world – Manchester, Kabul, and even live in London as I write this – my heart aches. Our world is so broken, so needy.

We look to those around us and ask for help. This is good, natural, expected. But as humans, we can only help imperfectly. Our help Band-aids the bigger problem of sin and darkness. We are in a fight. A fight to the death. A “You’ve Got Mail” scene comes to mind, and I so wish its lighthearted banter could be the salve on our wounds. And yet, it’s fiction. These acts of terror are all too real.

Amidst this fight – we can’t isolate ourselves or turn self inward, shutting down communication. We must ultimately ask for help from our Savior. Christ is our hope, our peace, the only one who can right these terrible wrongs. I rest in the knowledge that he has already overcome. Death lies defeated.

I pray for the comfort of those impacted by the acts of terror. For peace, the kind that only Christ can offer. For Christ’s perfect love, that casts out all fear.

I pray for our enemies, that the hatred that consumes them would be vanquished by the saving love of Christ.
