About Chasing Famous
Chasing Famous (New Hope, April 2017)
Have you ever considered your life as an audition?
Regardless of who or where we are, we are constantly, often unconsciously, auditioning for a part. Loving wife. Amazing employee. Crafting queen. Socialite. All we really want is to be loved, affirmed, and accepted. What if we could learn to live the life we have always been auditioning for without all the stress?
Chasing Famous is a redemptive book that teaches us how to take the focus off ourselves and shift it back on to the glory of God. Written by a professional actress who readily admits that she is the most self-centered person she knows, Chasing Famous provides practical and sometimes humorous examples of scriptural truth that will help you master the natural self-centered tendencies of life. Once you’ve mastered these issues, and you can, your story will turn the spotlight on God where, you’ll soon discover, what it means to truly live.
Read what others are saying about the book!
Chasing Famous was a timely addition to my shelf! My church life group focuses on missions, and recently completed John Piper’s Let the Nations Be Glad! DVD and group study guide. In it, Piper emphasizes God’s pursuit of His own glory; this theme continues (and Piper is mentioned several times) in Chasing Famous. I geeked out a little, as a big Piper fan.
Thus, I approached Chasing Famous with a somewhat pronounced missional focus and Piper bent. That being said – any reader can relate to Lloyd’s writing style and content. Her unique perspective and story immediately draw you in, and you will start to see opportunities to glorify God around every corner.
Theologically sound and convicting in every page, Chasing Famous challenges the reader to pursue God’s glory in all things. Whatever stage of life you find yourself in, this book is relevant. Whether a missionary on the field, an actor, or an influential business person, you are uniquely positioned to give God glory where you are, whatever the situation.
Lloyd provides practical application on how to do just that throughout the book; reflection questions at the end of each chapter prompt further thought. The chapter headings each cleverly related to the acting process, and brought cohesion to the general theme and content of the book.
Certainly a worthwhile read, and a valuable addition to the bookshelf.
