The Ilyon Chronicles

Bitter Winter

About Bitter Winter

Already struggling with a harsh winter and the threat of food shortage, a catastrophic event leaves those in the Landale camps reeling. Just when things couldn’t get much worse, camp members fall ill with the same devastating sickness that’s sweeping across the country.

Determined to gain the cure, Jace sets off to Valcré. However, there are only two sources—the queen, or a powerful gang of smugglers who have made the dangerous city their home. When Jace gains audience with the gang leader, he finds the price of the cure is steeper than any of them imagined, forcing him to make an impossible choice—betray his conscience or let those he loves die.

My Review

YAYYY new book from Jaye L. Knight! I have been waiting for this book for a long time (“… a long time,” she said in her best Ben Kenobi voice).

The last Ilyon Chronicles book (Exiles) released in August 2017, which means I’ve only been waiting 16 months … but it felt like a long 16 months. 🙂

I was so happy to return to Landale, Arcacia, and the world of Ilyon in “Bitter Winter”. Absolutely worth the wait and a read I struggled to put down. Certain events I have anticipated for some time occurred (and just how I wanted them to). Updates came on all my favorite characters (except Talas … #weep). Truly an #allthefeels book, if I can get away with two hashtags in as many sentences.

Character growth felt natural and believable. Twists and turns kept me guessing till the end. And the possibility for a person’s character to be compromised was real … but thankfully not realized!

While The King’s Scrolls remains my favorite Ilyon Chronicles book, Bitter Winter is a fabulous and worthy addition to the series. And so the wait begins for the next book … LOL. Popcorn is at the ready.

I received an e-copy of the book from the author. All opinions are my own.

Lacy

About Lacy

The last thing Aaron ever envisioned was falling for a prostitute. Everything about it spells trouble. However, he can’t help noticing the way her smile lights up when she sees him and how much brokenness she hides behind it. Neither can he ignore how desperately she needs rescue and protection.

When Lacy shares a life or death secret with him, Aaron is willing to risk everything to help her and to show her Elôm’s love. Yet, such a choice could destroy his reputation and maybe even cost him his freedom.

My Review

I enjoyed reading Lacy. I knew I’d start it soon after finishing Bitter Winter, so my ears certainly perked up when I ran across her name during that read!

Lacy delves into a number of challenging topics; Knight handles each gracefully and thoughtfully. The resolution felt a tad speedy, but that may simply be due to the story being novella length rather than a full novel.

While I prefer Bitter Winter, between the two books, Lacy certainly remains a fine addition to the series and worthwhile time spent!

I received a copy of the book from the author. All opinions are my own.
