A Return of Devotion book cover

Daphne Blakemoor was perfectly happy living in her own secluded world for twelve years. She had everything she needed–loved ones, a true home, and time to indulge her imagination. But when ownership of the estate where she works as a housekeeper passes on, and the new marquis has an undeniable connection to her past, everything she’s come to rely upon is threatened.

William, Marquis of Chemsford’s main goal in life is to be the exact opposite of his father. Starting a new life in the peace and quiet of the country sounds perfect until his housekeeper turns his life upside down.

They’ve spent their lives hiding from the past. Can they find the courage to face their deepest wounds and, perhaps, find a new path for the future together?

My Review

A Return of Devotion is a delicious read, perfect to cozy up with for a day at home as snow falls!

I honestly don’t remember anything about the first book in the series (story of my life). Thankfully, this does a great job at filling in the blanks. So, whether you’ve read Book 1 or not, you can easily pick up Book 2 and be good (with the natural caveat that it would have spoilers for the first one).

Daphne is an endearing character. While aggravating at times (only because I wanted her to see her own worth faster than she did!), she was incredibly personable. How slow am I to realize truths about myself and my identity in Christ, too? I constantly have to learn and relearn, as does Daphne.

And William? Talk about a swoon-worthy hero! I’d like one of him in real life, please. Honorable, noble, and a perfect combination of Darcy and Bingley (the book is set in Regency England, after all!).

The references to Bath and London are very Austen-esque. Hunter’s setting/world-building is just what I’d expect after reading her other books—thorough and vivid.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
